Coconut Puran Poli Filling

A traditional jaggery-coconut filling flavored with cardamom, perfect for stuffed flatbreads like Puran Poli, Modak, or Kozhukattai. Simple, aromatic, and festive.

Ingredients

  • Desiccated coconut – 1 cup
  • Jaggery (grated or powdered) – ¾ cup
  • Cardamom powder – ½ tsp
  • Ghee – 1 tsp (optional)
  • Water – 2–3 tbsp (just enough to melt jaggery)

Instructions

  1. Melt Jaggery,In a pan, add jaggery and 2–3 tbsp water,Heat on low flame until the jaggery melts completely. Stir occasionally.

  2. Add Coconut,Add desiccated coconut to the melted jaggery,Stir well and cook on low flame for 5–7 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly.

  3. Flavor & Finish,Add cardamom powder and mix well,You can add 1 tsp ghee for extra richness,Let it cool. The filling will firm up as it cools.

  4. Use It In: Stuff inside wheat dough to make Puran Poli,Also great in Modaks, Nei Appam, or Kozhukattai.
