How It's Made

Coconut flour is a brilliant example of our zero-waste philosophy. It is a natural by-product of coconut milk production. After the fresh coconut meat is pressed to extract coconut milk, the remaining pulp is dried at a low temperature. Once completely dry, it is finely ground into a soft, powdery flour. This process ensures it retains a high amount of fiber and protein.

  • Good Source of Protein: It contains more protein than traditional flours like all-purpose or cornmeal, supporting muscle growth and repair.
  • May Promote Heart Health: Regular consumption may help reduce bad cholesterol and triglyceride levels, thanks to its high fiber content.

FAQs

Size and texture. Desiccated coconut is very finely ground — almost a powder with a little texture. Shredded coconut is longer strands. Coconut flakes are wide, thin pieces. All three are dried coconut meat, but the cut affects how they behave in recipes. Our desiccated coconut is the fine-cut version — ideal for baking, coating, and mixing into doughs and batters.

No. This is 100% pure dried coconut meat with nothing added — no sugar, no sulphites, no preservatives. The mild natural sweetness comes from the coconut itself. If you've had the sweetened desiccated coconut sold in most supermarkets, this will taste noticeably cleaner and less cloying.

Yes. Unlike coconut flour (which is defatted), desiccated coconut retains its natural coconut fat — which is why it has that rich, slightly moist texture even when dry. That fat content is also what gives it flavour and makes it so useful in cooking.

Yes. Soak desiccated coconut in hot water for 20–30 minutes, blend, then strain through a cheesecloth. It won't be as thick as using fresh coconut, but it works well for cooking, curries, and smoothies.

Baked goods (cakes, cookies, macaroons), energy balls, granola, curry pastes, chutneys, smoothie toppings, and as a coating for protein balls or truffles. It's one of the more versatile pantry ingredients — once you have it, you'll find uses for it constantly.

Cool, dry, airtight. Refrigerate after opening for maximum freshness. Properly stored, it has a long shelf life — check the pack for the best-before date.
